From January 3 to 17, the Dakar Rally, which kicks off the motorsport year, took place. Among the participants were Antonio and Carlo Cabini from ICAS.

This year, the 47th edition of the Dakar Rally was held entirely in Saudi Arabia, with both start and finish in Shubaytah on the eastern coast.
Five main vehicle categories competed: motorcycles, cars, Challenger (light four-wheel prototypes), SSV (light production quads), and trucks. In the truck category, Antonio and his son Carlo Cabini, along with Giulio Verzelletti from Bergamo, raced in an Iveco Italtrans truck. Completing the challenge was far from easy: after approximately 7,700 km across rocky terrain, desert, and dunes, the Italian team finished 15th out of 44 trucks.
Antonio Cabini, participating for the 23rd time, commented: “It went well, even though on the second day we received 27 hours of penalties for arriving late at an intermediate checkpoint. We also got stuck in the dunes for four hours. That wasn’t all: we broke the belt twice and had three punctures. On some very high and technical dunes, we feared overturning. Despite everything, we finished the race!”

The Cabini family, including Dr. Umberto Cabini, entrepreneur and President of the ADI Collezione Compasso d’Oro Foundation, are not only Dakar veterans but have also successfully led ICAS since 1960.
